Lures and visibility to fish increasing strike rate.

Lures and visibility to fish increasing strike rate. picture

I had a very interesting discussion about lures just yesterday and decided to start off my blog on the topic  in order to share my thoughts with you.

  • What do fish actually see when the see a lure in the water?
  • Is that pretty pink  that lured you into the purchase with great expectation of endless catches or what is actually the reason they grab and annihilate your lure?
  • Or is there another reason?

This is just a short and sweet thought provoker.

I read up a lot before embarking on lure procurement/manufacture, and color is a reoccurring topic time and time again amongst lure makers and enthusiasts.

Basically it has been agreed that fish do not really see colour but rather frequency of light!

Hang time in the strike zone is of pivotal importance as we want the lure to be in the lure presentable for as long as possible for the fish to lash at obviously!

But all of this doesn't really matter if you dont know how to fish the intended lure for the actual intended species so knowledge of your intended species is paramount. fishing is like going to battle, so know your "enemy". we want to take the "battle part" our of our lovley sport and have you progress to being a smooth and refined angler rather than somebody who is constantly trying and putting the time in and not getting the results.

A pretty lure in the wrong zone or worked too fast/slow can still yield a fish, but not necessarily the fish youre targeting!

Wouldent you like to master the art of lure fishing and have a great strike ratio rather than one of chance and on the odd occasion? knowing your intended targeted species of fishes' habits is going to be invaluable to increasing your strike rate of THAT species. I once had cob fishing so waxed i would wake up at the correct tide at 2am walk the bank not even casting until I saw a splash and then threw and in, i threat 7 times landed 5 fish packed up and went home. I felt invincible! of course the fish need to be there so type of tide (pushing) time of day (darkness) and presence (it was "cobtober" ) all played a role in me achieving my glory! but i spent time learning the river, watching the fish, testing their responsiveness to my lure and learning alot about them before I had that happen, dont be fooled it took about 2 million casts an countless prior outings to get to that stage, so knowledge is key!

Educate yourself about the intended fish species youre targeting, learn their habits, familiarize yourself with the patterns of the fish and youll see that increasing your strike rate is actually as easy as pie.

Then go try another river and youll have to learn the habits of the inhabitants in that specific ecosystem all over again as it will possibly be different than the last eg: tidal river vs blind river.

I will do my best to keep consistent with the blog posts , please do feel free to engage in discussion and lets unlock the secrets to multiple catches of our intended species!

Thank you for reading.
